An old coworker and great friend of mine used to make these before he retired.  I approached him and asked him if it would be alright if I started making them again and selling them to fellow Letter Carriers.  He told me that it would be fine but to remember where I got the idea from.  I told him I would name them after him, hence the Tray Weasel.  His nickname at work was "The Weasel" since he was always weaseling out of work.  He embraced the nickname and still uses it today.  That is how the Tray Weasel got its name.

I buy all the parts for this locally and make it myself in my garage.  I make a batch, sell them and then make more.  I am not trying to get rich making these.  I hope to get some extra pocket change, cover my expenses and help out fellow Letter Carriers around the country.  I am not a carpenter, I am a mailman.  I make these as a tool not as a mantle piece but I like them to look as good as my skills allow.
